NLMK DanSteel A/S has drafted and approved an Energy Policy and revised its Climate Strategy. Energy saving is one of the main parameters of NLMK DanSteel A/Sís environmentally and socially responsible production.
Introduction and maintenance of a third-party certified Energy Management System has given a frame and an instrument to achieve our energy goals. The system gives a mandate and sufficient scope of action to follow the requirements. It also generally helps to focus on the environmental impact of our business activities and provides management with a tool to follow up energy efficiency and environmental measures.
The Energy policy establishes principles for and purposes behind energy objectives, action plan, improvement projects and exact energy goals, e.g. a goal for maximum consumption of m3 natural gas per ton produced steel plate.
The Energy Management System ensures the incarnation of the energy policy implementation and the achievement of the energy goals through a series of tangible action plans; the involvement of all relevant employees in the companyís energy work and the creation of an energy conscious behavior, which contributes to that NLMK DanSteel A/S gets the largest possible effect of its effort within the energy area. NLMK DanSteel A/Sís energy work becoming visible towards our trade partners.
NLMK DanSteel A/Sís Energy Management System is certified by Det Norske Veritas, Business Assurance, Danmark A/S according to DS/EN ISO 50001:2011 standard.
As a large-scale consumer of natural gas NLMK DanSteel A/S is registered an ETS business. We strive to reduce the CO2 emission as much as possible. The Danish Energy Agency has approved the companyís CO2 monitoring plan for 2014 and has issued a CO2-emission permit. According to the permit and the allocation of free CO2- allowances in line with the Kyoto Agreement, NLMK DanSteel has been assigned its share of the allowances for the period 2013-2020.
The consumption of natural gas and the CO2-emissions are subject to a yearly third-party inspection before being reported to The Danish Energy Agency. The NLMK DanSteel A/Sís energy consumption and CO2- emissions are verified and reported to the authorities by Det Norske Veritas, Business Assurance, Danmark A/S.
